MLA from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Amit Mahato, won the last election with a margin of nearly 29000 votes. A court in Ranchi was found guilty in the case of a murderous attack on then Son of Alok Kumar of Alok Kumar. In March 2018, the court awarded him two years of sentence. This led to their legislation and they were disqualified for contesting elections.
Yogendra Prasad Mahato's 'Coke' walks into the assembly, winning the election on the ticket of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in Gomia. 'Coke' is a sophisticated form of coal which comes in industrial use. Yogendra was accused in 2010 that he stole coal for his coke plants. In February 2018, he was found guilty in this case and sentenced to Yogendra, his brother and two others. Yogendra was sentenced to three years' rigorous imprisonment and was barred for contesting his election for 10 years.
Therefore, it was time to hold elections on these two seats.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha lost both seats on being found guilty in criminal cases of his MLA. But the party did not shy away from these leaders. They gave tickets to their wives. Amit Mahto's wife, Seema Mahato, contested the elections and contested Gomiya Yogendra Mahato's Babita Mahato.

Seema Mahato has received about 77 thousand votes in Siliguri. Sudesh Mahato, the second-best person, got around 63,500 votes. Borders win elections with lead of around 13000 votes. This is less than half of her husband Amit Mahto's lead of 29,740. Amit had defeated Amit in 2014. Babita Mahato has won with 59451 votes from Gomia. He had 8 thousand votes ahead of Ajso's lambodar Mahto. BJP's Madhav Lal Singh remained at number three
